“We need reinforcements on this side of the building!” calls the Fire Chief into the megaphone.
It’s like an inferno as the empty old warehouse goes up in flames, smoke, and ash, and as the gallons of water pour through the holes in the roof.
The Fire Chief stands back and surveys the scene. The Fire Chief directs the ladder truck from the next town over to pull up near the building. As a three-alarm fire, it’s up to the Fire Chief to direct firefighters from three different stations!
Good thing the Chief was so thorough evaluating the equipment last week! Everything is in tip-top shape, and, thanks to the Chief, the firefighters have all been trained in the best tactics and techniques for suppressing large fires like this one.
Once the fire is under control, the reporters surge forward, looking for the distinctive Fire Chief hat so they can get an interview. The Chief’s job includes being the go-to for all PR for the department!
What else does the Fire Chief do? As the highest officer and administrator, the fire chief is in charge of overseeing all training, equipment checks, directing the firefighting on the scene and arson investigations afterwards, and coordinating mosquito control programs (who even knew about that last one?)!
The Fire Chief is busy, busy, busy, and that megaphone is most certainly going to come in handy!
